Here are six major Edinburgh developments set to transform the city.
Granton Waterfront
Plans for the largest regeneration project of its kind in Scotland for a new environmentally friendly coastal town in Edinburgh were given the go ahead by the Capital’s planning authority in 2024. The project will transform the former industrial waterfront land into a new mixed-use neighbourhood, with a strong focus on low-carbon living. Construction of an initial phase of 847 homes began in 2026.

The proposal seeks to redevelop a currently under-used site at the corner of Ocean Drive and Rennie's Isle, Leith - replacing a building of limited architectural merit and poor environmental performance with a landmark hotel that responds to identified market demand, supports economic activity within Leith, and delivers a high-quality, low-carbon development.
