Shoppers in East Kilbride could soon be able to enjoy a burger while getting their weekly food shop as a popular restaurant chain prepares to open up in-store.
Burger Boi is planning to open its first Scottish restaurant within a Morrisons supermarket at the Stewartfield store in the South Lanarkshire town.
The new eatery is expected to have seating for up to 25 customers and offer the full Burger Boi experience, including its signature Californian smashed burgers. Coffee shop Koffee Social is also included in the proposal.
The opening will also create new jobs for the local community.
A Burger Boi spokesperson said: “We are working in partnership with Morrisons to open new Burger Boi concessions in selected supermarkets throughout the UK, where there is space available following the closure of cafes and other operations.
“We are currently open at three Morrisons sites - Manchester Piccadilly, Wood Green and Watford, with more to follow. While our expansion plans do potentially include a Burger Boi and Koffee Social within the vacant Cafe space at Morrisons Stewartfield, this remains subject to approval of the building works which has yet to be confirmed.
“A further update will be provided in due course.”
The brand, inspired by a trip to California, has built its reputation on smashed burgers - beef patties pressed onto a hot griddle to produce a crispy, caramelised crust. Popular menu items include the American Boi, Triple Cheese Boi, and Hot Honey Smash. The menu also features fried chicken sandwiches, loaded fries, and milkshakes, with vegetarian and vegan options available.
East Kilbride follows the successful launch of Burger Boi restaurants inside Morrisons Watford, Manchester Piccadilly and Wood Green. It marks another important step in the growing partnership between the two brands and Burger Boi’s wider UK expansion. The new sites will offer takeaway as well as sit-down dining and delivery options.
Further Burger Boi locations are planned across the UK throughout 2026.
A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We are opening new Burger Boi and other concessions in selected supermarkets throughout the UK, where there is space available following the closure of cafes and other operations.”
They added that the new concessions would not be replacing Morrisons supermarket cafes which remain fully open.
