A driver was caught on camera after mistakenly driving onto a pedestrian bridge over Glasgow’s busy M8 motorway.
The red car was seen travelling across the Anderston Footbridge, which spans the M8 motorway and links the city centre with the West End.
An eyewitness spotted the vehicle entering the bridge from the eastern side near Waterloo Street before continuing along its main span.
However, the driver was unable to make it down the tight, curved descent at the western end towards Argyle Street.
The car was then forced to turn around and make its way back across the bridge.
The eyewitness said the driver carried out a “15-point turn” before heading back down the way they had come, with the car remaining on the bridge for around ten minutes.
Having watched the unusual scene unfold from an office window, they said: “It gave us all a good laugh.”
The Anderston Footbridge has a long and unusual history of its own.
Known locally as the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’, construction began in the early 1970s but was halted in 1972 following opposition.
For more than 40 years, the western end of the bridge remained unfinished and suspended around 40ft in the air.
The footbridge was eventually completed in 2013, finally linking both sides of the M8.
