Crossbasket Castle spa will be first in Scotland to offer luxury Isle of Harris apothecary

Crossbasket Castle is set to introduce one of the world’s most exclusive organic skincare houses to Scotland, joining a select portfolio of luxury properties including Claridge’s and Beaverbrook.

A.S Apothecary has been selected as the signature skincare partner for its new Four Angels Spa, opening this autumn.

Based on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, A.S Apothecary creates small-batch therapeutic skincare using organically grown, hand-picked and sustainably wild-harvested plants gathered within a tightly defined area of the island. The result is an exceptionally considered approach to skincare which is deliberately limited in scale.

Four Angels Spa will become only the fourth destination in the world to offer A.S Apothecary, joining an exclusive portfolio that includes Claridge’s in London and Beaverbrook in Surrey. It will also mark the brand’s first Scottish location and only its third UK destination.

Inspired by the history and legacy of the Four Angels Waterfall, that flows through the Crossbasket Castle estate, the bespoke ritual collection is centred around four angels, each embodying a unique pillar of wellbeing. Representing Roots, Purity, Renewal and Wholeness, each range has been thoughtfully created by A.S Apothecary with its own restorative purposes and have been transformed into signature rituals by internationally recognised massage trainer and healer, Beata Aleksandrowicz.

Individually, each delivers targeted care, while together, they form a complete ritual of balance, beauty and restoration, inviting moments of stillness, renewal and lasting wellbeing. The collection draws on flowers, bark, leaves, roots, blossom and seaweed, with ingredients used almost immediately  wherever possible to preserve their natural properties.

The partnership is the culmination of a four-year collaboration between A.S Apothecary founder Amanda Saurin and Crossbasket Castle owners Alison and Steve Timoney. Together, they have created a bespoke collection inspired not only by A.S Apothecary’s distinctive botanical philosophy, but by the landscape and natural surroundings of Crossbasket Estate itself.

Honey and propolis from the estate’s own hives will feature alongside botanicals and ingredients inspired by the surrounding trees, flowers and wider
landscape. The collection includes essential oils, distillations, balms, massage oils, scrubs and masks, alongside a carefully considered suite of bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner and body wash. A collection of four herbal teas, each inspired by one of the Four Angels ranges, will complete the experience.

The timing taps into a wider shift in skincare towards ingredients with genuine provenance. Propolis in particular has moved from niche apitherapy staple to one of the most talked about ingredients in natural beauty, prized for its antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Amanda Saurin founder of A.S Apothecary, said: “Lots of people approach me and, almost invariably, I say no. Alison and Steve were different. From our
very first conversation, I understood their vision for Four Angels and how naturally it aligned with our therapeutic plant work.

“We’ve been working on this for at least four years, right from the beginning, and the concept has never really changed – it has simply been refined. It has always been about trees, flowers and sea, and now the honey and propolis from Crossbasket Estate itself.

“Everything is gathered within a very small area and used almost immediately wherever possible. That means we know exactly where everything has come from. There is a real sense of provenance and traceability in every product.”

For Crossbasket Castle, the partnership represents more than the arrival of a prestigious skincare brand. It reflects the estate’s wider approach to Four Angels Spa - creating a deeply personal, place-led experience rooted in nature, provenance and craftsmanship.

Alison Timoney, owner of Crossbasket Castle, said: “When Amanda first talked us  through the idea of the Four Angels ranges, it just made sense. It’s not something you can rush. We’ve had four years to get this right, and every element has been chosen deliberately, right down to the honey from our own hives.

“What makes it particularly special is that this is not simply a product we are bringing into the spa. We have created something together that connects Harris and Crossbasket Estate through the same ideas of nature, care and provenance.”

The treatments at Four Angels Spa have been created by Founder of Beata Digital Academy, Beata Aleksandrowicz, an internationally recognised massage trainer and healer renowned for her holistic and deeply intuitive approach to wellbeing. Working closely with the Amanda, Beata has developed a collection of signature rituals, combining therapeutic techniques with mindful touch and purposeful movement.
