Duck & Waffle has closed its Edinburgh restaurant after nearly four years at the St James Quarter.

The high-profile restaurant served customers for the final time on Saturday, 24 October, bringing an end to the brand’s only Scottish outpost.

Duck & Waffle confirmed the closure in a message thanking customers, staff and the wider Edinburgh community for supporting the restaurant during its time in the capital.

The company said: “We are incredibly grateful to our guests, our team, and the Edinburgh community for their support throughout our time in the city.

“To everyone who visited us, celebrated with us, and helped make Duck & Waffle Edinburgh so special, thank you.

“While our time here has come to an end, we hope to welcome you to our flagship restaurant in London.”

No reason has been given for the closure and the company has not announced what will happen to the Edinburgh premises.

Duck & Waffle opened at St James Quarter on 1 February 2023 in what was the restaurant group’s first UK location outside London.

Occupying a large fourth-floor space at 400-402 St James Crescent, the restaurant featured an open kitchen, wraparound cocktail bar, private dining rooms and a terrace overlooking the development and Edinburgh skyline.

The brand had already built a strong following through its flagship London restaurant at Heron Tower and brought several of its best-known dishes north.

Central to the menu was its namesake Duck & Waffle – crispy duck leg confit served with a fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup on a buttermilk waffle.

The Edinburgh restaurant also developed dishes specifically for its Scottish opening, including a deep-fried haggis bar made with ox cheek, haggis and duck fat caramel.

At the time of its launch, brand founder Shimon Bokovza described Edinburgh as a globally recognised destination with a diverse food scene and said it was the ideal location for the company’s first UK expansion outside London.

The restaurant made extensive use of Scottish produce, including locally sourced beef, cheese and shellfish.

It later expanded its offering with an outdoor terrace, all-day brunch, Sunday roasts, set menus and private events.

The closure leaves Duck & Waffle’s flagship London restaurant at 110 Bishopsgate as the company’s remaining UK location.

The company has directed customers with questions about the Edinburgh closure to its guest relations team.
