Parents and grandparents at a loss for how to fill the final week of the summer holidays look no further as we have compiled a list of FREE things to do in Glasgow before the kids go back to school. Thursday, August 6
10.30am-12.30pm: Wonderful weaving at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) - A family workshop where we will be making paper and fabric weaving inspired by the artwork of the women of the South Sea Islands. 11am-2pm: Family fun day at Glasgow Club Maryhill (additional support needs event) - Celebrate the Games coming to Glasgow once again with Games Time Festival events. 1-3pm: Soft Archery Festival at Easterhouse Phoenix Community Centre - Whether you’re trying archery for the very first time or just looking for a fun day out, this event is open to all ages and abilities. Friendly coaches from Easterhouse Phoenix will be on hand to help everyone hit the target. 1.30-4pm: Mini Commonwealth Games at the Burrell Collection (outdoors) - A series of sporting activities based on objects in the displays. This activity takes place outside and is weather dependant. 1.30-4.30pm: Arts and crafts at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum – Their exciting summer programme of free activities designed for families includes hands on craft activities to inspire. 2-4pm: Shuttlecock crafts at Provand’s Lordship - Celebrate the 2026 Commonwealth games by making your own lucky birds out of shuttlecocks that were used in competitive badminton matches and be inspired by the birds that live in the hidden garden. 3-4pm: Songs and stories with Gerry Durkin at Ibrox Library - Come along and celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge with a fun-filled session led by the fantastic musical storyteller, Gerry Durkin. Event is free, drop in, no ticket required. 5.30-6pm: Bedtime Bookbug at Library at The Bridge - Sing sleepy songs, listen to bedtime stories and see Bookbug in their pyjamas. Saturday, August 8 10am-4pm: Digger weekend at Riverside Museum (autism-friendly quiet hour between 10-11am) - A hands-on construction experience where young people can climb aboard real construction machinery, meet construction and engineering professionals, and discover how the buildings, roads and bridges around us are created. 2-2.30pm: Indepen-dance Wheel See pop-up performance at McLennan Arch, Glasgow Green - Dance artists, Aya Kobayashi and Monika Smekot, and Indepen-dance are bringing together disabled and non-disabled performers to travel as a “flock” through Glasgow Green using a range of wheeled transport including bikes, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Join in this engaging all-inclusive outdoor performance project, celebrating access, movement, and shared experience. 2.30-4pm: Summer Reading Challenge closing event at Partick Library - Enjoy music themed crafts and activities inspired by this year’s challenge. Come along to celebrate your reading achievements, get creative and share in the excitement with fellow readers.
