Glasgow’s most famous market will stay open after dark for a special Halloween event later this month.
The Barras Halloween Night Market returns to the Gallowgate on Thursday 29 October, transforming the historic East End area with performers, food, music and more than 100 stalls.
Running from 5pm until 10pm, this year’s event will have a zombie theme as the Barras stages its Halloween night market for a fourth year.
Visitors will be able to browse more than 100 traders selling handmade crafts, gifts and seasonal items, alongside food and drink from Glasgow vendors.
There will also be a live DJ and performances throughout the evening, with organisers promising eerie decorations and plenty of Halloween atmosphere.
Organisers have said that caretaker characters who have supposedly spent generations sweeping the floors and locking the gates of the Barras will make their presence known during the night, with something planned for 6.58pm.
Fancy dress is encouraged and the event is family-friendly with dogs also welcome.
The night market comes as the Barras continues to develop beyond its traditional reputation for weekend stalls.
Food and drink has become a much bigger part of the area in recent years, with the wider Barras and Gallowgate area attracting new cafés, bars, street-food operators and independent hospitality businesses.
The success of Saint Luke’s as a music venue alongside the booming schedule of gigs at the Barrowland Ballroom has made this part of Glasgow an increasingly popular destination for eating, drinking and weekend socialising, particularly around major events and gigs at the Barrowland Ballroom.
That mix has also helped give the market a new audience, with vintage sellers, independent makers and food businesses sitting alongside the more traditional Barras traders.
The Halloween night market brings those different strands together, with food and drink set to form a major part of the evening alongside shopping and entertainment.
The Barras Market is at 244 Gallowgate, Glasgow, G4 0TT.
