Little Italy is a popular Italian restaurant in Glasgow’s West End, known for bringing traditional Italian flavours to the city.
The restaurant was opened in the city in the mid-1990s after Remo Crolla had gained experience working in Dino’s on Sauchiehall Street which was owned by his father.
After three decades, Little Italy still remains one of the West End’s favourite restaurants for locals and visitors.
Tell me a bit about the history of Little Italy and what kind of customers come here.
“People come here because it’s still a family place and it’s recognisable food. We do have a high standard of food here. It’s always consistent. And, people who have been coming here for years, they know that and they trust us.
“Children come here because they’re comfortable to be here. They love the atmosphere as it’s friendly and it’s casual. The food is served quickly, and it’s a- affordable as well.”
How did the concept of Little Italy come about?
“We opened in 1994, 32 years ago. I was only 23 years of age at the time, and I came from a catering background, but always loved Italy. I loved traveling to Italy. And I think my love came from when I was a student. I was traveling around Italy.
“I always wanted to open up, like, a typical Italian bar where you have a counter, U-shaped counter very often, full of pastries and cakes, and someone serving behind the counter.”
