The owner of a long-established Glasgow Italian eatery has revealed some of his favourite places to eat and drink in the city’s West End.
Remo Crolla, who has run Little Italy on Byres Road since 1994, says he rarely needs to venture into the city centre when looking for somewhere good to eat.
After more than 30 years in the area, Crolla has watched Glasgow’s food scene evolve, with independent cafés and restaurants offering an increasingly varied choice of cuisines.
For coffee, one of his favourite spots is Kember & Jones, where he says the quality of the coffee and relaxed atmosphere make it a great place to visit.
When it comes to Italian food, he recommends Zuloo, particularly for a simple plate of pasta.
Crolla also highlighted newer restaurants making an impression, including Noodle Inn, which has attracted queues with its homemade noodles.
He praised the variety of international food available in the West End, singling out Comet Chilli for Sri Lankan cuisine.
“I think you’ve got a nice range of places and a lot of them are owner-run rather than being large chains,” he said.
For Crolla, that independent spirit is part of what makes Glasgow’s food scene special.
His recommendations offer a snapshot of a neighbourhood where established favourites sit alongside newer arrivals, giving locals and visitors plenty of options to explore beyond the city centre.
