Lord of the Rings stars Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd to reunite in Glasgow this weekend
Two of Middle-earth’s most famous hobbits are set to reunite in Glasgow when Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd appear together at EPIC Comic Con this weekend.
The actors, who played Merry and Pippin in Peter Jackson’s blockbuster The Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be among the star guests at the fan convention at the Scottish Events Campus (SEC).
Boyd and Monaghan are both scheduled to appear on Saturday 26 September, with fans able to meet the pair and book photographs and autographs. It will be a hometown appearance for Boyd, who was born in Glasgow and began his acting career in the city.
Boyd spent six years working as a bookbinder before enrolling at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he graduated in 1995.
Boyd later found worldwide fame as Peregrin “Pippin” Took, while Manchester-born Monaghan played his fellow hobbit Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck.
Their friendship became one of the most enduring parts of the Lord of the Rings films, beginning with The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001 and continuing through The Two Towers and Oscar-winning finale The Return of the King.
More than two decades later, the pair remain close friends and have continued working together.
They currently star in travel and food television series Billy and Dom Eat the World, which follows them around the globe as they discover local food, people and culture.
The eight-part series includes trips to London, California, Texas, Japan, Switzerland, Manchester and Costa Rica, as well as a Scottish episode in which Boyd brings Monaghan to explore the Isles of Lewis and Harris.
Monaghan went on from Lord of the Rings to become one of the stars of hit television series Lost, playing Charlie Pace, and has also appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Boyd’s post-Middle-earth credits include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Seed of Chucky and Outlander, alongside an extensive career on stage.
Other guests announced for EPIC Comic Con Glasgow include Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff, What We Do in the Shadows actor Kayvan Novak, Game of Thrones and Iron Fist actress Jessica Henwick and Red Dwarf stars Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn.
The convention, previously known as ACME Comic Con, will take place in halls two and three at the SEC on 26 and 27 September.
