One of Scotland’s most luxurious hotels has featured on a best in the world list for the third successive year.
Described as the ‘epitome of ultra-luxe country house hospitality’, Gleneagles placed 100th in the annual ranking on the World’s 50 Best Hotels longlist.
The lavish five-star, 232-room country house in Auchterarder, Perthshire offers Michelin-starred dining in a romantic live piano setting with elegant bedrooms ranging from £500 per night to £5000 for custom luxury suites.
The stately property, just over an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, is surrounded by swathes of verdant countryside and 850 acres of golf course. Guests can play on three championship courses, including The King’s, The Queen’s, and The PGA Centenary.
Other outdoor activities include falconry, horse riding, shooting, and off-road driving. Its spa features 20 treatment rooms, a steam room, hot sauna cabin and a vitality pool.
Both World’s 50 Best and Time Out editor Leonie Cooper hailed The American Bar, one of three on-site bars, as a place ‘where you can casually quaff high-octane tipples from a menu centred around botanicals grown and foraged on the hotel’s estate’.
Gleneagles is home to two Michelin star Restaurant Andrew Fairlie. Guests can also dine at the Birnam Brasserie, The Strathearn, and The Dormy Bar and Grill.
Hong Kong’s Rosewood Hotel took the top spot as the World’s best hotel with Capella Bangkok in second place and Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River in third.
