Meet the snow leopard cubs who are Highland Wildlife Park’s newest residents
Meet snow leopard cub twins Indra and Tama who are the Highland Wildlife Park’s newest residents. The adorable siblings were officially named following a public vote and have now been fully introduced to the park. Indra is the Nepalese name for the boy cub, while girl cub Tama is named after one of the rivers that makes up the Koshi river system. The inquisitive duo are getting bigger and more confident by the day, exploring more of their habitat at the Kincraig attraction and even beginning to tuck into solid food under the watchful eye of mum Pari. 
The Highland Wildlife Park is a 105-hectare safari park and zoo in Kingussie located within the Cairngorms National Park. Amidst stunning vistas of rolling hills and ancient forests, you can encounter a remarkable array of wildlife in a setting that mirrors their natural habitats. Inhabitants include the Amur tiger, Arctic fox, European grey wolf, Polar bear and Red panda. 
Highland Wildlife Park said: “These elusive big cats can be found in the harsh, remote, mountainous areas of Central and South Asia, including the Himalayas. “Their habitat spans twelve countries, including China, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Russia. They opt for high altitudes in rocky, steep terrain that provides good cover for stalking prey. “Snow leopards thrive in cold environments. They have long, thick insulating fur and large paws that distribute their weight and prevent them from sinking into the snow. They even have an enlarged nasal cavity that warms cold air as it’s breathed in, protecting their lungs. “Snow leopards also have a thick tail that is almost as long as their body. They use it to help them balance when navigating steep, rocky terrain and leaping great distances. When resting, they can wrap the tail around themselves like a blanket to provide extra warmth.”
