Pastéis Lisboa opened their doors in Glasgow’s West End on Byres Road in August 2022 and have established themselves as a local favourite ever since.

Owners Emma and Sebastian were inspired by Lisbon’s new wave of modern pastelarias. After discovering what they believed to be the finest pastéis de nata in Portugal, they persuaded the fifth-generation pastry chef behind the family recipe to join them and bring it to a new audience in Scotland.

We headed down to Byres Road to speak to Sebastian and to find out a bit more about the business.

Tell us a bit about what you do here at Pastéis Lisboa and what customers can expect.

“Pastéis Lisboa is the first specialist bakery in Scotland which produces the much loved Portuguese pastry Pastéis de Nata

“We also have an Iberian deli, so we have quite a lot of specialist food from both Portugal and Spain, and that’s what we do. We also serve excellent coffee.

What is it like to be a business on Byres Road in 2026 and how this shop compares to your other location on Gordon Street?

“At the moment, it’s quite challenging trading conditions here on Byres Road because of the ongoing roadworks that’s been going on for well over a year now. Apart from that, it’s a very vibrant local area.

there’s not that big office population over here as opposite the city center, but we get quite a lot of, uh, local people coming in, obviously students, uh, and people who generally visit the West End.
