A popular Italian restaurant in Paisley is planning a major expansion less than two years after opening.
Maremonti, on Glasgow Road, wants to take over the neighbouring former grocer’s shop and incorporate the unit into its existing restaurant.
A planning application has been submitted to Renfrewshire Council seeking permission for the change of use of the former shop at Units A and B, 48 Glasgow Road.
The proposal would allow the vacant retail space to become an extension of the adjoining restaurant, with alterations also planned to the frontage of the building.
Maremonti opened at 48A Glasgow Road in September 2024 and has quickly established itself as a popular addition to Paisley’s dining scene.
The restaurant specialises in Italian classics alongside a brunch menu, with dishes including pizza, pasta and traditional Italian favourites.
Its expansion plans suggest the restaurant is now looking to increase the size of its operation by spreading into the neighbouring unit.
The application, reference 26/0600/PP, was submitted to Renfrewshire Council in August and is currently awaiting a decision.
Official planning documents describe the proposal as the “change of use of former grocers (Class 1A) to form extension and enlargement of adjoining restaurant (Class 3) with associated external alterations to frontage”.
The restaurant is operated by Tre Amici Enterprises Ltd, which is also named as the licence holder for Maremonti in Renfrewshire Council licensing records.
The expansion would be another positive development for the Glasgow Road area, which has a growing collection of independent restaurants, cafés and other businesses stretching east from Paisley town centre.
The deadline for representations on the plans was 2 September, with Renfrewshire Council now set to consider the application.
