Scotland’s first-ever baby sloth has marked World Sloth Day with a special treat at Edinburgh Zoo.

Atty, who made headlines after becoming the first sloth born in Scotland, celebrated the occasion alongside his mum, Fe, with a selection of their favourite snacks provided by keepers.

While the pair enjoyed their floral treat, Atty’s dad, Nico, took the opportunity to have a nap.

The family of Linne’s two-toed sloths is cared for by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), the wildlife conservation charity which operates Edinburgh Zoo.

Atty gained international attention following his birth and was named in honour of renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough.

His arrival marked a significant moment for the zoo, with visitors able to watch the young sloth grow alongside his parents.

World Sloth Day, celebrated annually on 20 October, aims to raise awareness of these slow-moving mammals and the importance of protecting them and their natural habitats.

Sloths are native to Central and South America, where they spend much of their lives in trees, moving slowly and conserving energy.

Edinburgh Zoo is home to the sloth family as part of its wider work in animal care, conservation and education.

Visitors can book tickets to see the animals at Edinburgh Zoo online in advance through the zoo’s official website here.
