Sloans is turning back the clock this Christmas with a free Victorian-inspired festive celebration later this month.

To mark the launch of its new menu - and The Merchant at Sloans’ first Christmas since opening in October - the historic cobbled Sloans Lane will be transformed into a scene straight from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, complete with traditional carol singers, a horse-drawn carriage, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, twinkling lights and plenty of festive cheer.

Last year, the iconic Glasgow pub invested more than £300,000 to transform the historic venue into a magical winter wonderland, creating one of Glasgow’s must-visit Christmas destinations.

This Christmas, visitors can soak up the festive atmosphere in the Lane before stepping inside where three beautifully decorated festive floors are waiting to be discovered, including the newly launched immersive dining experience, The Merchants at Sloans, which is celebrating its first Christmas since opening in October.

Step back in time as Sloans transforms for Victorian Christmas celebrations

Sloans will also be unveiling its new Christmas menu, packed with Scottish classics with a Sloans twist, including haggis, neeps and tattie pakora, black pudding bonbons and the ultimate Festive Sharer, featuring mini turkey, stuffing and gravy pies, mini macaroni cheese, black pudding and pulled pork spring rolls.

Natalie MacCallum, from Sloans, said: “Christmas is one of the most magical times of year at Sloans, and this year we wanted to imagine what Christmas might have looked like in years gone by and bring some of those old traditions back to life.

“There’s something really special about seeing the Lane all lit up for Christmas, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone along for a little bit of old-fashioned Christmas magic in the heart of Glasgow.”

Sloans’ Big Victorian Christmas takes place on Sunday 22nd November from 4pm – 6pm and is free to attend. Tables for lunch and dinner can be booked in advance here.

There will be a full programme of family-friendly Christmas events across its three floors, including the Wee Christmas Ceilidh, Eat Film Christmas and Mrs Claus’s Christmas Storytime – a magical festive event for little ones.

Earlier this year, Sloans launched The Merchants at Sloans – a brand-new immersive dining experience spanning the first floor of the historic building, inviting guests into a captivating world where portraits watch from the walls, curious concoctions wait to be discovered and the grand old piano has a mind of its own.

Bringing together food, drink, theatre and storytelling across three spaces, The Merchants at Sloans has been designed by Glasgow-based interiors company Surface-ID and even includes its own vintage dressing rail where diners can dress up for photos after dinner, alongside a cosy snug bar.
