The Wiggles are heading back to Scotland in 2027 after announcing new shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The Australian children’s entertainment phenomenon will bring its Sparkle! BIG SHOW to Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Tuesday 6 April before performing at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Wednesday 7 April.
The new dates will come a year after The Wiggles played three performances at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and three more at Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo on 7 April as part of their Tree of Wisdom Spectacular tour.
Those concerts confirmed a Scottish connection for a group regarded as one of Australia’s biggest cultural exports.
Founder and Blue Wiggle Anthony Field told me during the Glasgow visit that Scottish music had been part of his family life since childhood. “My grandfather, Donald Richie, his father was born in Edinburgh and he came out as a ship’s captain,” Field said.
Field’s grandfather played the tenor banjo and passed Scottish music through the family. Field later learned the bagpipes while serving in the Australian Army, whose battalion had links with the Gordon Highlanders.
That influence has repeatedly made its way into The Wiggles’ music and live shows. The group have recorded and performed Scottish and Irish traditional songs, appeared in kilts and incorporated the pipes into performances.
At the Scottish shows in April, Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie performed Caledonia in Edinburgh and Loch Lomond in Glasgow.
The family connection now runs throughout the group. Anthony’s daughter Lucia Field is a Blue Wiggle, while several other members of the Field family work on stage and behind the scenes.
The current eight-Wiggle line-up features Anthony and Lucia in blue, Tsehay Hawkins and Evie Ferris in yellow, Simon Pryce and Caterina Mete in red, and Lachlan Gillespie and John Pearce in purple.
They are joined by characters including Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, Captain Feathersword and viral favourite the Tree of Wisdom.
Sparkle! BIG SHOW is a considerably larger production than the group’s previous Scottish concerts, promising arena-scale lighting, visual effects, costumes, singalongs and audience participation.
It accompanies the group’s 2026 album Sparkle!: A Circus of Lights, which has pushed The Wiggles further into colourful dance-pop while retaining the songs and characters familiar to generations of children.
Anthony Field said of the production: “For over 35 years, we’ve had the privilege of bringing families together through music and entertainment.”
The tour follows a remarkable period for a group formed in Sydney in 1991 by Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt, who had studied early-childhood education.
The Wiggles have since sold millions of albums and DVDs and built a huge global audience across streaming platforms, YouTube and live shows.
Their latest incarnation has also developed a sizeable following among parents online, helped by a social-media presence that has introduced the group to another generation.
For Scottish families, the 2027 tour will bring The Wiggles back for a second successive year, with a return to the Usher Hall followed by their biggest Glasgow show yet at the OVO Hydro.
