This Weekend: Safari park fun with the big cats at Blair Drummond
The incredible big cats that call Blair Drummond home will be celebrated at a special event in the Safari Park this weekend.

Head to the lion house on Saturday, August 8 from 10am to 4pm, where the Education Team will be hosting a range of fun, interactive activities to help you discover more about lions, tigers and some of the other amazing big cats found around the world.

Put your skills to the test if you think you have the eyes of a tiger with the ‘Guess the Coat’ challenge and see if you can match the right pattern to the right species - from lions and tigers to leopards, jaguars, snow leopards and cheetahs.

You can also test your nose with a scent enrichment activity. Enrichment is an important part of animal welfare, helping big cats to stay active, curious and engaged. Can you identify some of the scents used to encourage their natural behaviours?

Discover more about the incredible distances big cats can roam in the wild with a tiger vs lion home range display, learn about the challenges they face and see how their habitats have changed over time. Plus, if you’ve ever wondered whether you have what it takes to sound like a big cat, you can have a go at the ‘Roar like a Big Cat’ challenge.

Friends from the Namibian Lion Trust will also be at the lion house sharing more about the important work they do to protect lions in Namibia, with lots of information to discover and some items available to buy. They’ll also be joining the 12pm lion talk to chat more about their conservation work and how the park supports them through its Link to the Wild fundraising initiative.

There will also be a very special prize up for grabs. A tiger tong feed tombola gives two lucky winners the chance to get closer to the tigers during a special experience at 2.30pm on the day. Participants must be aged 10 or over to take part.

Whether you’re a lion lover, a tiger fan or simply curious to learn more about these incredible predators, Big Cat Day is the perfect opportunity to get closer to the world of big cats and discover how we can all help protect them.
