Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan is coming to Glasgow next weekend for a special live show looking back at his four-decade Hollywood career.
The American actor will appear at the King’s Theatre on Sunday 18 October for Fictional Selves, an evening of stories about the films, television shows and people who have shaped his life.
MacLachlan is best known as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper in David Lynch’s cult television masterpiece Twin Peaks, but his career has taken him from science-fiction epics and controversial Hollywood movies to Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and, most recently, Fallout.
The Glasgow event follows the publication of MacLachlan’s new memoir, also titled Fictional Selves, which was released on 29 September.
The book explores his journey through Hollywood, his relationship with fame and the creation of an alter ego he calls “Other Kyle”.
MacLachlan will be joined on stage in Glasgow by film critic and broadcaster Ali Plumb, with the audience also given the chance to ask the actor questions.
The show is expected to include behind-the-scenes stories from some of the defining roles of his career, as well as MacLachlan’s long friendship and creative partnership with the late director David Lynch.
The pair first worked together when MacLachlan was cast as Paul Atreides in Lynch’s ambitious 1984 adaptation of Dune.
They reunited for Blue Velvet in 1986, with MacLachlan playing Jeffrey Beaumont opposite Isabella Rossellini, Laura Dern and Dennis Hopper.
Their most celebrated collaboration followed with Twin Peaks, which first aired in 1990 and turned MacLachlan’s coffee-loving Agent Cooper into one of television’s most recognisable characters.
MacLachlan returned to the role for the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and again for the acclaimed third television series, Twin Peaks: The Return, in 2017.
The actor has said he accepts that Twin Peaks will probably be the “first line” of his obituary despite the extraordinary range of roles that have followed.
MacLachlan later found a new audience as Charlotte York’s husband Trey MacDougal in Sex and the City and as Orson Hodge in Desperate Housewives.
More recently he has appeared as Hank MacLean in Amazon’s hit adaptation of the video game Fallout and has developed an unexpectedly large following on social media.
The Glasgow appearance is the first of three UK dates for Fictional Selves, followed by Manchester on 19 October and London on 21 October.
Fictional Selves with Kyle MacLachlan begins at 7.30pm at the King’s Theatre on Bath Street.
