More than two weeks of roadworks are set to cause disruption for drivers in South Lanarkshire.

The B743 Muirkirk Road, between Strathaven and Muirkirk, will close from 8am on Monday, October 26, until 4pm on Friday, November 6, for carriageway resurfacing works.

Beginning at the junction with the B745 and extending to High Pewlands Farm, motorists are being urged to plan ahead to avoid delays.

No vehicles will be permitted to use the affected stretch of road during the closure period.

The local authority apologised for the inconvenience to those living and working in the area.

Colin Park, head of roads, transportation and fleet services at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “Unfortunately, it is not feasible to allow any vehicles onto this section of the B743 while the resurfacing work is being carried out.

“We therefore urge all road users to take notice of this closure and think how it might affect their journeys, and then plan ahead and allow extra time for travelling if necessary.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to people in the area, but their patience and understanding during the period of the work would be much appreciated.

“I know everyone who uses this road will see a benefit in the improved condition of the surface as a result of the works.”
