Watch as people across Scotland capture the moment the Moon passed in front of the Sun, turning daylight noticeably darker.
Thousands of people across Scotland looked to the skies on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as a rare solar eclipse took place.
It is the most significant eclipse seen from the UK since 1999, unlike the total eclipse witnessed in parts of Britain that year, this is a partial eclipse in Scotland, with more than 90 per cent of the sun covered in some areas.
People gathered at viewpoints and open spaces to watch the event, while others took out their phones and cameras to capture the phenomenon.
The eclipse also created a brief change in the feel of the day, with skies becoming noticeably darker as the moon moved across the sun.
Footage shared from across Scotland shows the different views of the eclipse, including the crescent-shaped sun appearing through breaks in the cloud.
The event was particularly notable for UK viewers, coming 27 years after the last total solar eclipse visible from Britain in 1999.
For those who managed to get a clear view, it was a chance to see one of the most unusual sights in the night sky during the day.
