The Snuts will release their fourth studio album in October as the West Lothian band continue a remarkable run which has taken each of their previous records into the top three of the UK chart.
Joy In Short Moments will arrive on 23 October through the group’s own Happy Artist Records label, in partnership with Virgin Music Group.
The 11-track record finds frontman Jack Cochrane reflecting on success, failure, becoming a parent and experiencing loss after several years in which the band’s rise has taken them around the world. We spoke to him about the release, watch the video above.
Cochrane said: “After three records of constant motion, I felt pulled back towards real life. Success, failure, parenthood and loss all found their way into these songs.
“Joy In Short Moments is the sound of reconnecting with what matters and learning to find meaning in the small things.”
The album opens with the band’s latest single, In Motion, which returns to the big, guitar-led sound that helped establish The Snuts as one of Scotland’s most popular festival acts.
The song became an early live favourite during a sold-out European tour which included dates in Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne, as well as an appearance at Lollapalooza Berlin.
Other tracks on the album include Youth Ain’t Easy, Defibrillator, Summer Rain, Motherlands, Warsaw and Little Marathon Man.
Lead single Defibrillator was released when the album was announced. Cochrane described it as a song about making a conscious decision to “live and love more”, while placing less importance on ego and everyday worries.
Formed in Whitburn, The Snuts are completed by guitarist Joe McGillveray, bassist Callum Wilson and drummer Jordan Mackay.
Their debut album, W.L., entered the UK chart at number one in 2021. Follow-up Burn The Empire reached number three in 2022, while the independently released and self-produced Millennials peaked at number two in 2024.
The band will support the new album with a major UK tour beginning in November. Its Scottish dates include Livehouse in Dundee on 19 November, Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on 20 November, Edinburgh Corn Exchange on 21 November and Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre on 23 November.
