World class circus performers will kick of Glasgow’s festivities at the city’s Winter Wonderland celebrations.

Circus Zyair will bring Very Merry Christmas to the heated Big Top as the first attraction for this year’s Glasgow Green event.

One of the UK’s leading companies, the circus boasts daring stunts, colourful displays and exhilarating performances from world-class acrobats and artists.

The action-packed one-hour show will feature an exciting line-up of circus entertainment, including its most thrilling attraction – the incredible Motorcycle Globe of Death.

Watch as fearless motorcycle riders take to the steel globe, performing exhilarating display of speed, precision and split-second timing, just metres from the audience.

The spectacular circus performance will run at selected times between Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, January 3 and will join a bigger ice rink, complete with a Bavarian bar and Santa’s Grotto at Glasgow Green.

Winter Wonderland will run at the east end park from Friday, November 20 until Sunday, January 3, while Glasgow Winter Wonderland at St Enoch will launch on Friday, November 6 and run until Sunday, December 27.

Director of Scotland Theme Park Events who is delivering Glasgow’s Winter Wonderland, Jensen Taylor Connelly, said: “Although it’s still a few months away, we’ve been busy organising a new line-up of entertainment and attractions for this year, to bring together affordable family events.

“Circus Zyair are one of the UK’s leading performance groups, with world class artists and jaw dropping acrobatics and stunts, and we’re excited to have them on board. Visitors can look forward to new attractions this year which will be announced in the coming weeks.”

George Square will return to the heart of Glasgow’s Christmas celebrations this year with a new festive village following its £20 million transformation.

Events and attractions will be spread across George Square, St Enoch Square and Glasgow Green throughout November and December.

The revamped George Square will host the new Good Times Christmas Village from 19th November, featuring food and drink alongside festive light installations.

It marks the return of Christmas attractions to one of Glasgow’s most recognisable locations after the square was unavailable for last year’s celebrations because of its major redevelopment.

George Square has undergone an 18-month-long transformation as part of the wider city centre Avenues programme, with new trees, seating, landscaping and granite surfaces among the changes.

The council says it is also changing the way Glasgow officially begins Christmas. There will no longer be a single traditional Christmas lights switch-on event in George Square.

Christmas markets will return to St Enoch Square during the first week of November, with international food stalls, a Big Wheel and free entertainment.

Glasgow Green’s Winter Wonderland will then return on 20th November following its debut last year. The attraction is set to include Santa’s grotto, an ice rink, festive Big Top and fairground rides.
