A nostalgic look back at six decades of Glasgow Airport in old retro pictures
Glasgow Airport has been an important part of Scotland’s transport network for 60 years.
Glasgow Airport opened on 2 May 1966, replacing the older Renfrew Airport, which had become too small to meet Glasgow’s growing demand for air travel.
The new airport was built at Abbotsinch, on the site of a former RAF and naval air base, and was designed by the famous Scottish architect Sir Basil Spence.
