Andi Oliver and Kirsty Wark join Glasgow 2026 inspired celebration of food culture
People in Glasgow will be able to hear from - and dine with - some of the UK’s leading chefs and cultural figures as a three-day celebration of food, identity and culture comes to the city as part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival.
Running from Thursday to Saturday this week, Place at the Table will bring internationally renowned voices to the city for a series of talks and dining experiences to examine how food shapes community, culture and helps us better understand the world around us.
Among those appearing at Place at the Table, which forms part of the Merchant City Festival and wider Glasgow 2026 Festival, is Great British Menu presenter Andi Oliver, broadcaster Kirsty Wark, former Scots Makar Jackie Kay CBE and renowned American historian and author Dr Jessica B. Harris, whose book High on the Hog inspired the hit Netflix series.
Across Saturday and Sunday at City Halls, panelists will explore topics ranging from food of the Indian diaspora and Scotland’s colonial legacy to cultural identity and the role chefs play in shaping modern cities.
The programme will also shine a light on Glasgow’s evolving food scene, with leading voices including restaurateur, television personality and author Julie Lin, and restaurant critic Chitra Ramaswamy, examining its growing influence on the city’s reputation and character.
Christiana Bisset, Festival Programmer at Merchant City Festival Said: “Glasgow’s food scene has been shaped by generations of people and culture from across the world. A Place at the Table brings internationally renowned chefs to celebrate these influences and highlights the stories behind Glasgow’s favourite dishes”.
Beyond the talks, Place at the Table invites guests to explore its themes through a series of one off dining experiences by the likes of BBC Great British Menu’s Andi Oliver, Executive Chef at The Pem Romy Gill, Tacos Lah’s Julie Lin, Inver’s Pam Brunton and Celentano’s Dean Parker will prepare dishes which celebrate the influences and shared histories that continue to define Scotland’s evolving food scene.
Place at the Table forms part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival, a citywide cultural programme running alongside the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The event is a collaboration between Glasgow Life’s Merchant City Festival team, the Oxford Cultural Collective and the University of Glasgow’s Beniba Centre for Slavery Studies.
Guests can attend talks from under £10, as well as book one off dinners produced by celebrity chefs for under £70.
