Keepers became concerned when they noticed Bruce was off his food and arranged for him to be examined by vets at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). As part of the investigation, Bruce was placed under general anaesthetic so the veterinary team could carry out a closer examination and check his overall health.
Thankfully, the team quickly identified the source of the problem — a troublesome tooth.
Vets removed the poorly tooth and took the opportunity to give Bruce a full-body health check to make sure there were no other underlying issues. The examination provided some reassuring news, with Bruce receiving a clean bill of health.
Following his treatment, Bruce was able to return to his habitat and appears to be back to his usual routine.
Keepers say he has been spotted exploring his surroundings, searching for bamboo and enjoying plenty of naps high up in the trees.
After a worrying spell for his keepers, it seems Bruce’s appetite and his love of relaxing among the branches are both firmly back on track.
