A major road through Glasgow city centre has been closed indefinitely while engineers investigate reports of subsidence.
The westbound carriageway of Trongate has been shut between Albion Street and the junction with Glassford Street and Stockwell Street.
Glasgow City Council introduced the closure on Saturday (19 September) and said it would remain in place “until further notice” while investigations are carried out.
Motorists are being diverted away from the affected section through Albion Street, Ingram Street and Glassford Street.
The council has warned drivers to expect delays while the closure remains in place.
The extent and cause of the reported subsidence have not yet been confirmed.
Trongate is one of the main routes through the eastern side of Glasgow city centre, linking the Merchant City and Trongate with Glasgow Cross.
The affected stretch is also close to a number of major regeneration and public realm projects taking place across the city centre.
Glasgow City Council has been carrying out extensive work through its wider Avenues programme, which is designed to transform streets across the city centre with improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, landscaping and public spaces.
There is currently no confirmed date for the westbound section of Trongate to reopen.
