Glasgow to have major new Christmas event at Kelvingrove Art Gallery

itison, the Glasgow based experience company and producer of GlasGLOW and itison Drive-In Movies, has today announced a multi-million-pound investment for the city with an ambitious new festive event launching at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum this Christmas.

Behind closed doors, a world class team of designers, technicians and producers have been busy reimagining Christmas at Kelvingrove over the past few years to create a spectacular new experience designed exclusively for the iconic city landmark, which will run in evenings from the end of November through til Christmas.

While organisers are keeping the creative theme under wraps until the official launch, they have confirmed there will be entertainment inside and out with a goal to rival the best Christmas events around the UK.

Over the years, more than 400,000 people have attended itison-produced events at Kelvingrove including the UK’s largest ice rink in 2021 and 2022 and organisers are hoping the new attraction will become a landmark addition to Glasgow’s festive calendar.

It has been confirmed that the ice rink will not return this year, making way for a new concept.

The multi-million pound project is expected to create over a hundred  seasonal jobs across production, hospitality, operations and guest experience while bringing tens of thousands of additional visitors into the city during the Christmas period.

Full details, including the event name, creative theme, opening dates and ticket information, will be revealed later this summer.

Oli Norman, founder and CEO of itison, said: “It’s taken us a couple of years to reimagine what a uniquely Glaswegian spectacle at Kelvingrove could look like. We’ve been travelling around the world experiencing some of the best events for inspiration.

“Glasgow deserves a premium Christmas event of real quality and ambition, something the whole city can feel proud of and I can’t wait to unveil the scale of what we have in-store.

“This is a significant investment that will create over a hundred new jobs and bring real benefit to the city, but most importantly we hope it will become a Christmas tradition that families return to year after year.”

Billy Garrett, Director of Culture, Tourism and Events at Glasgow Life, said: “Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum holds a special place in the hearts of people across Glasgow and beyond, and itison’s new event will bring a fresh festive experience to one of our most treasured venues. We look forward to welcoming audiences of all ages to enjoy this unique new addition to Glasgow’s Christmas programme.”
