Lanarkshire locals are being warned to expect to hear gunfire tomorrow as part of a planned police training exercise.
Police Scotland will be working with the military and other emergency services as part of the day of action on Friday, September 11.
Using facilities at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service headquarters in Cambuslang, locals can expect to see armed police officers and military personnel, as well as a military helicopter, arriving.
Police reassured locals only blank ammunition will be fired.
A statement read: “You may hear blank ammunition, which sounds like gun shots, being used from around 12pm – 2.30pm.
“There will be no public access and nothing will be seen once those involved are inside the grounds.”
“Exercise Tartan Kukri is a multi-agency training exercise nested within the wider Exercise Kukri Dawn, a routine RAF-led exercise running from 2 to 18 September 2026, which is designed to train new Chinook aircrew by replicating operational scenarios.
“Exercises are a crucial way for different organisations to work together, share knowledge and strengthen our response.”
A huge military helicopter was spotted hovering above houses in East Kilbride on Tuesday.
The Chinook chopper, captured by residents, shows the aircraft hovering very close to rooftops before slowly ascending as another Chinook passes overhead.
