Inside plans for Glasgow's Yorkhill Quay as waterfront regeneration gathers pace

Glasgow’s Yorkhill Quay development is set to grow further, with plans for an additional 89 homes and a series of public art installations announced as work gets underway on the first phase of 500 waterfront apartments.

Peel Waters and Urban Pulse are behind the proposals, which will see new homes delivered between the Riverside Museum and Clydeside Distillery.

The plans also include three large-scale murals celebrating the area’s rich shipbuilding heritage, set to feature on the Clydeside Expressway-facing elevation.

Haus Collective is leading the design of the second-phase apartment block, which will feature ground-floor commercial space and rooftop terraces, making the most of its prominent riverside location.

Murray Henderson, director of HAUS Collective, commented: “Yorkhill Quay sits is an evolving part of Glasgow and the building’s location shaped its design from the outset. It has four equally important facades, each responding to a different setting: the heritage of the Clydeside Distillery to the east, the regeneration of Yorkhill Quay to the west, the River Clyde to the south and the wider city and one of the main approaches into Glasgow to the north.

“This context influenced the architecture, from the massing and elevations to the balconies, terraces and active ground-floor frontage. It also created the opportunity for large-scale public art to the north. The aim is to allow each elevation to respond to its own setting while still working together as one coherent building.”
