Loch Morlich beach reopens after Cairngorms wildfires
Loch Morlich Watersports and Boathouse Café will reopen today after wildfires shut down trade for more than three weeks. Following a multi-agency assessment, the cordon around Glenmore will be lifted, allowing local businesses to reopen. The Cairngorms National Park, near Aviemore, has been burning for nearly three weeks after igniting on July 15 destroying thousands of acres of moor and woodland around the Glenmore Forest and Loch Morlich. Locals and tourists were welcomed back to the beauty spot from 10am today (Friday, August 7). Management paid tribute to local residents and the emergency services for their support throughout the “challenging time”. A spokesperson for Loch Morlich said: “After more than three weeks of closure following the Glenmore wildfire, we’re delighted to announce that Loch Morlich Watersports and Boathouse Café Loch Morlich will reopen from 10am on Friday, August 7. “We’d like to thank all of our customers, local residents, emergency services, and everyone who has supported us throughout this challenging time. Your patience and understanding have meant so much to our team.” Visitors are being warned to be aware that firefighting operations may still be taking place in parts of the Glenmore area as crews continue to deal with any remaining hotspots. Some forest paths, mountain bike trails and roads will remain closed or have restricted access. People are being instructed to follow all signage and instructions from Forestry and Land Scotland and the Cairngorms National Park Authority when visiting. A spokesperson added: “We can’t wait to welcome everyone back onto the water! If you have a booking with us, we’ll see you soon. If you’ve been waiting to get back out on Loch Morlich, bookings are now open and we look forward to seeing you this weekend. “Thank you once again for your incredible support. Here’s to getting back on the water!” Meanwhile, Cairngorm Mountain Resort has also reopened this afternoon: “We are delighted to be welcoming visitors back once again thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone working to tackle the wildfire. “From local gamekeepers, estate workers, landowners, volunteers, partner agencies and the emergency services, we are deeply grateful to all those who have fought to protect this special place. “As the area reopens, we encourage everyone to follow guidance and respect any path closures within Glenmore. By enjoying the landscape responsibly, visitors can play an important role in supporting our community’s recovery. “We look forward to seeing you soon!”
