A £600,000 investment to extend the life of Cot House bridge, in Dunoon, is scheduled to begin in the second week of October and continue until the end of the year.
The bridge and access to Cot House service station will remain open under traffic management while the work is carried out. Delays are likely, and we thank road users for their patience.
Cot House Bridge incorporates specialist half-joint detailing, which requires particular attention during inspection and repair. The extent of any repairs required will be confirmed once the deck is exposed and inspected.
The work will be carried out one lane at a time. The existing road surface will be removed to expose the bridge’s concrete deck for inspection and any necessary repairs. The repaired deck will then be waterproofed and resurfaced before the lane reopens and work moves to the opposite lane. At the same time, defects beneath the bridge will be exposed and repaired on the soffit and elevations.
The completion date will depend on the extent and complexity of any repairs identified once the concrete is exposed, as well as weather conditions.
The works are funded through the Local Maintenance Bridge Fund secured by the Council’s Infrastructure Design Team as part of a wider programme of investment to strengthen four bridges and replace a further four bridges across Argyll and Bute.
