Newton Mearns favourite The Malletsheugh unveil plans for wedding venue
The owners of Scotland’s best Indian restaurant have unveiled plans to host weddings and live entertainment. The Malletsheugh announced plans to transform their new function space for private celebrations which will include weddings, birthdays and corporate events. A calendar of live entertainment and special events is also in the works. The building has been lovingly restored, renovated, revamped and redesigned to create a sumptuously welcoming environment perfectly tailored to many purposes, needs, moods and moments. With plush, comfortable furnishings offering a modern twist on a classical feel and perfectly representing the ethos of the Birk family – stylish, sophisticated, classy yet welcoming. A post on their page read: “Exciting things are happening at the Malletsheugh! “Our new function space is really starting to take shape, and we can’t wait to show you the finished result.
“Before long, we’ll be launching a fantastic calendar of live entertainment and special events, as well as opening the doors for private celebrations including weddings, birthdays, christenings, anniversaries, baby showers, corporate events, and so much more. “The countdown is on… keep an eye on our page for sneak peeks, announcements, and launch details. We can’t wait to welcome you.” The Malletsheugh has won numerous awards and has received rave reviews for its Scottish and South Indian cuisine. From deeply flavoured curries packed with zingy ginger, rich spices and the highest quality premium local ingredients, to Scottish favourites from steak pie to fish and chips to deliciously tender, sizzling steaks, The Malletsheugh brings new levels of produce, food and service to the area. The Birk family, who run the Newton Mearns establishment, opened a second dining spot in East Kilbride in January under the name The Osprey which this week had diners queuing up to book their Christmas dinner which sold out in minutes. The Osprey, located on Strathaven Road, has successfully built on the reputation they have established for incredible food and service - bringing the same premium experience at remarkably reasonable prices. The family – mum Tina Kaur Birk and sons Pav, Aman, Bobby and Rohan – have a three generation heritage in Indian food in Glasgow, as first their grandfather then their father were chefs in the city and the family restaurant Taj Mahal in Gourock was much loved. The boys’ grandfather was one of the first Indian chefs trained in Glasgow so they’ve grown up with hospitality in their blood. But The Malletsheugh was a totally new chapter, a new vision and concept, elevating Indian food and the dining experience. Pav Birk, who heads up the family firm, said: “We took a leap with The Malletsheugh, stretched ourselves and stepped into the unknown with a lot of risk – it was a gamble but we knew the place and the concept were special. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how the people in Mearns welcomed us and got behind us. We really feel part of the local community.”
