Tarbert Harbour announces new £2.2m Marina Slipway Project
Tarbert Harbour at Loch Fyne has announced a major new £2.2m Marina Slipway Project, which on completion will significantly boost marine tourism and marine commerce opportunities; key economic drivers to the ongoing regeneration of the Argyllshire fishing village.
The project will see the creation of a new Marina Slipway with increased car parking and vessel hard standing space, with works commencing today.
This announcement represents a major milestone in the inward investment by Tarbert (Loch Fyne) Harbour Authority (THA), the not-for-profit Trust Port which operates Tarbert Harbour to contribute to the village’s prosperity and sustainability.
Tarbert Harbour say: “This will greatly enhance launch and retrieval facilities for leisure and commercial vessels, along with increased hard standing and parking capacity. The project will also include a new kayak pontoon and modern watercraft recovery facilities, helping to support marine tourism, marine commerce and the wider local economy.”
Post construction of both projects, three new full-time jobs will be created within Tarbert Harbour Authority, plus apprenticeship opportunities.
The Marina Slipway Project is one of a number of significant infrastructure investments to be committed to Tarbert over the last 18 months.
Tarbert Marina sits in a sheltered natural harbour on the shores of Loch Fyne, surrounded by the colourful waterfront of the historic fishing village. Its position near the entrance to the Kintyre peninsula and within sailing distance of the Clyde and Crinan Canal makes it a popular stopping point for visiting yachts, while the harbour is overlooked by the remains of Tarbert Castle.
