The Time Capsule Waterpark to have a £2.5million makeover
One of Scotland’s best known waterparks is set to undergo a £2.5million makeover. Visitors to the Time Capsule can look forward to an even better experience as North Lanarkshire Council announced plans to modernise the popular leisure attraction. The programme includes a range of exciting upgrades across the Coatbridge venue, including a new themed tipping bucket attraction, modern health suites, an indoor Clip ‘n Climb arena, upgraded changing facilities, improved pool surrounds, a new community space overlooking the ice rink and enhancements to the soft play area. Plans are also progressing to replace the popular water flumes later this year, providing new attractions for visitors to enjoy for years to come. Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the Communities Committee, said: “The Time Capsule has been at the heart of leisure and family life in North Lanarkshire for more than 30 years, and this investment demonstrates our commitment to its future. “These exciting improvements will enhance the experience for everyone who visits, while creating modern, accessible facilities that encourage more people to be active and enjoy everything the venue has to offer.” First opened in 1991, the Time Capsule was a splash paradise for kids and young teens in the 90s and early 00s, with its prehistoric-themed interior featuring cavemen, T-Rex’s and pterodactyls suspended overhead. There was even a jacuzzi at the top of a volcano where parents could escape to. And who can forget the giant Wooly Mammoth and tunnel at the Ice Age-themed ice rink. Work on the latest investment programme will be delivered during 2026/27, ensuring the Time Capsule continues to evolve as a modern leisure destination while providing high-quality facilities that support health, wellbeing and community life across North Lanarkshire. The improvements build on recent investment that has already seen the waterpark fully restored following major engineering works, both lifts replaced to improve accessibility and the gym refurbished. Councillor Jim Logue, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, added: “This significant investment is about protecting one of our most valued leisure facilities and ensuring it continues to serve our communities for many years to come. “Many of the new features have been designed to celebrate Coatbridge’s industrial heritage, creating a unique visitor experience while complementing the Time Capsule’s role as one of North Lanarkshire’s flagship leisure destinations.
