Three night bus hubs to launch in Glasgow city centre this Friday

From this Friday (23 October), Night Bus Hubs will operate in Glasgow city centre to offer people enjoying a night out or working late the chance to get home more easily and plan their journey.

Three Night Bus Hubs will be in operation on Sauchiehall Street at The Garage, Hope Street at Watt Brothers, and at the southern end of Union Street.

The aim is to support the city centre’s night-time economy by promoting night buses as a key choice for transport home - easing the pressure on taxis and private hires for late night transport.

The Night Bus Hubs have been developed through the work of the City Centre Taskforce - with the council, Let’s Go Glasgow (the city centre’s Business Improvement District), First Bus and McGill’s working in partnership on the scheme.

There are currently ten night bus services operating in Glasgow, running from the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights between midnight and 4am, which will be the days and times of operation for the Night Bus Hubs.

The Hubs will operate from existing bus stops which will be signposted with specific, clear branding.

The bus stops are covered by CCTV and will be marshalled, with the one-year marshalling pilot funded by Let’s Go Glasgow and the council.  The marshals will be at present at all three Night Bus Hubs between their midnight and 4am hours of operation on Fridays and Saturdays.

Bus services will continue to serve all other bus stops on their route so there will be no impact on customers who want to use the stop they normally do.

Cllr Angus Millar, Convener for City Centre Recovery and Transport said: “Enhancing night-time transport options are an important part of supporting Glasgow’s night-time economy, and the city centre’s new Night Bus Hubs will help people enjoying a night out or working late to confidently plan their journey and get home more easily. This initiative will improve the night bus offer in the city and help make night buses an easier and more attractive option for the many people who enjoy a night out in the city centre or work in the pubs, clubs, restaurants and other businesses there.”
