Calvin Harris has written himself into the Guinness Book of Records for the third time in his career – after playing to 1.6 million people in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The record-breaking Scot from Dumfries received the award for what he described as “truly insane day” which he said could only have happened in the South American country.
Taking to Instagram with laughing face emojis, he said: “WOW I now have the world record for ‘largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist’ - only in Brazil!!!”
The show, which took place earlier this year, means he enjoyed the largest attendance of all time by any single artist DJ.
At the time, his headline appearance forced the closure of Brazil’s leading thoroughfare, the Rua da Consolação, with some fans fainting in the heat.
Harris has been recognised for a number of other records in the past.
In 2014, the Guinness Book of Records (GWR) presented him with a certificate for most top 10 hits on the UK singles chart from one album for his long player 18 Months – which produced nine Top 10s.
GWR also lists him as the highest paid DJ in one year for his earnings between June 2015 and 2016.
GWR said Harris had turned Sao Paulo into “one massive street party” by climbing on board a carnival float for his performance on 8 February 2026.
Wearing a Brazilian football shirt with the name Calvinho on the back he worked his way through a setlist featuring many of his biggest hits.
The record book also noted that a similar-sized crowd attended Madonna’s free concert on Copacabana Beach in May 2024 during her Celebration Tour.
Harris – born Adam Richard Wiles – rose from producing his 2007 debut album I Created Disco in his bedroom to global superstardom when his second album, 2009’s Ready For The Weekend shot to No.1.
He has gone on to become one of the most remarkable success stories in Scottish music.
His 2012 album 18 Months propelled the musician, producer and DJ into the international music elite and features collaborations with the likes of Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Kelis and Dizzee Rascal.
The album’s nine UK Top 10 singles broke Michael Jackson’s record for the most Top 10 hits generated by one album.
His collaboration with Rihanna on We Found Love became an international smash and earned him a Grammy when its video won Best Short Form Music Video in 2013. He has since received six Grammy nominations.
The former M&S shelf-stacker has enjoyed 11 UK No.1 singles, making him the dance act with the most No.1 singles in the history of the Official UK Singles Chart.
