Punk singer John Lydon to answer fan questions in Paisley

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon is coming to Paisley next week for an evening of stories, outspoken opinions and questions from fans.

The punk rock icon, who became famous as Johnny Rotten, will take to the stage at Paisley Town Hall on Thursday 12 November as part of his UK spoken-word tour, I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right.

The 70-year-old singer, who helped change the course of music in the UK as frontman of the Sex Pistols, will look back on his extraordinary career and share his famously unfiltered views on life, music and the world around him.

The show will also give members of the audience an opportunity to put their own questions to one of rock music’s most controversial figures.

Lydon became the snarling face of Britain’s punk revolution in the 1970s, delivering some of the most incendiary songs of the era.

The Sex Pistols burst onto the music scene with Anarchy in the UK in November 1976, a record that challenged the musical establishment and helped launch a cultural revolution.

Their follow-up single God Save the Queen caused national outrage when it was released during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977, while their only studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, reached number one in the UK charts.

Despite their brief original career, the group became one of the most influential bands in rock history.

Following the Sex Pistols’ collapse in 1978, Lydon formed Public Image Ltd, pioneering a more experimental sound that drew on post-punk, dub and electronic music.

The group went on to enjoy success with songs including Public Image, Rise and This Is Not a Love Song.

Lydon has remained a provocative and outspoken public figure throughout his career, often challenging the political and cultural orthodoxies associated with his punk roots.

His Paisley appearance comes during a UK tour that also includes Scottish dates at Stirling’s Albert Halls on Wednesday 11 November and Dunoon’s Queen’s Hall on Friday 13 November.

The Paisley show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from Paisley Town Hall’s official box office.
