Halloween is usually about dressing up, watching scary films and getting a fright or two. But I decided to celebrate the spooky season a little differently this year, by heading to Highland Fling in Killiecrankie, Perthshire, to take on three adrenaline-fuelled challenges.

From flying across the Scottish countryside on a zip line to swinging above the River Garry and being launched into the air in complete darkness, it was certainly not your average day out.

And the best part is that I got to experience all three.

First up was the zip line, offering a bird’s-eye view of the spectacular Perthshire surroundings.

After getting strapped into the harness and making my way to the launch point, it was time to take off.

The moment you leave the platform, you are greeted with incredible views as you travel through the air, picking up speed along the way.

It was a brilliant way to kick off the day, combining a rush of adrenaline with the chance to take in the surrounding landscape.

Next up was the Highland Swing.

Suspended high above the River Garry, the swing offers a completely different experience.

Before being released, you’re given a choice of either a countdown so you know exactly when you’re about to drop, or taken by surprise.

I went for the latter.

There was no countdown, no warning and no time to prepare for what was coming next. One moment I was suspended above the river and the next I was flying through the air.

The sudden drop delivers an incredible adrenaline rush before the swing carries you across the landscape.

It was easily one of the highlights of the day, and choosing to be surprised made the whole experience even more exciting.

But the biggest activity was still to come.

Rather than taking on all three challenges during daylight, I had to wait until nightfall for the final one.

As darkness settled over Killiecrankie, it was time for the Blackout Bungee.

And what better way to finish a Halloween adventure than being launched into the air in complete darkness?

The Blackout Bungee adds a different dimension to the experience, with the lack of visibility making it unlike the other activities.

Once strapped in, it was time for the countdown, followed by an exhilarating launch into the night sky.

With no views to take in, the focus was entirely on the sensation of being propelled into the air and bouncing back down.

It was a fitting finale to a day packed with adventure.

Three activities, three different experiences and plenty of adrenaline.

What made the day particularly enjoyable was how different each challenge was. The zip line gave me the chance to fly across the landscape, the swing delivered that freefall sensation, and the Blackout Bungee brought something completely different once the sun had gone down.

And for anyone thinking about trying it themselves, there are some offers worth keeping an eye out for.
