Lewis Capaldi is taking over BBC Radio 2 to reveal the Scottish songs and artists that have helped soundtrack his life. The West Lothian singer will present a special one-hour programme, Lewis Capaldi’s Ultimate Scottish Playlist, on Monday, 31 August.
Capaldi will choose some of his favourite music from Scotland and explain the memories, stories and influences behind his selections.
His choices will span generations and genres, with music from Paolo Nutini, Calvin Harris, Texas and Deacon Blue among the artists set to feature in the programme.
The show offers Capaldi an opportunity to celebrate the musicians who influenced him long before he became one of Scotland’s biggest international music stars.
BBC Radio 2 said: “Lewis Capaldi takes over Radio 2 with his ultimate Scottish playlist, sharing the songs that have soundtracked his life.”
The programme promises a mixture of pop, rock and dance music as Capaldi talks listeners through the records and performers that mean the most to him. Among the artists featured is fellow Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini.
The Paisley musician broke through internationally with his debut album These Streets in 2006 and went on to top the UK album chart with Sunny Side Up, Caustic Love and Last Night in the Bittersweet.
Calvin Harris represents another different strand of Scotland’s international music success. Born in Dumfries, Harris has developed from making electronic music in his bedroom into one of the world’s most successful DJs and producers, working with artists including Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding.
Capaldi will also feature Glasgow band Texas, whose catalogue stretches back to their 1989 breakthrough I Don’t Want a Lover.
Deacon Blue are another of the established Scottish acts included in the programme. Formed in Glasgow during the 1980s, the band became known for songs including Real Gone Kid, Dignity and Chocolate Girl.
The Radio 2 special comes during a busy period for Capaldi following his return to live performance. The singer made an emotional comeback at Glastonbury in June 2025, two years after cutting short his previous appearance at the festival.
He subsequently returned to touring and has continued releasing new music. Capaldi has also indicated that another album is his next major priority.
Speaking during his appearance at Sziget Festival in Budapest earlier this month, he told the audience he intended to step away after completing his remaining summer shows and concentrate on making a new record.
The forthcoming album would follow his second studio record, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, which reached number one in the UK in 2023.
His debut, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, was one of the biggest-selling British albums of recent years and included the international number one Someone You Loved.
Capaldi’s Radio 2 takeover also arrives ahead of another major celebration of Scottish music. Radio 2 in the Park takes place in Stirling from 11 to 13 September, bringing a major line-up of artists to the city.
Lewis Capaldi’s Ultimate Scottish Playlist airs on BBC Radio 2 from 6pm on Monday, 31 August and will also be available through BBC Sounds.
