The Fratellis will headline a huge outdoor show beneath Edinburgh Castle as part of the capital’s Hogmanay celebrations.
The Glasgow rock band will take over West Princes Street Gardens for the Night Afore Party on Wednesday 30 December, kicking off four days of New Year celebrations in Edinburgh.
The concert will also mark 20 years since the release of the band’s debut album Costello Music, which produced some of their biggest songs including Chelsea Dagger, Henrietta and Whistle for the Choir.
It will be The Fratellis’ first appearance at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, with special guests still to be announced.
The band said: “It’s such an honour & privilege to be asked to perform at this year’s Hogmanay celebrations in a city that we hold so close to our hearts!”
Costello Music was released in 2006 and went on to sell more than one million copies, helping establish The Fratellis as one of Scotland’s biggest bands of the era. They later won the British Breakthrough Act award at the BRIT Awards and, after reforming in 2012, have released a further five albums.
The Hogmanay appearance comes during the band’s 20th anniversary celebrations for Costello Music. A planned anniversary tour has been rescheduled into early 2027 because of illness in the band, with two Glasgow shows now due to take place at the O2 Academy on 19 and 20 February.
The Fratellis will begin Edinburgh’s Hogmanay music programme the night before Underworld headline Hogmanay in the Gardens on 31 December.
Underworld’s New Year’s Eve performance will include a special Midnight Moment featuring Edinburgh Castle’s fireworks alongside lights and projections, soundtracked live by the electronic duo and their anthem Born Slippy (Nuxx). Around 50,000 people are expected to take part in the wider celebrations.
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay begins on 29 December with the Torchlight Procession and continues until New Year’s Day, with concerts, ceilidhs, comedy and the First Footin’ programme taking place around the city.
The Fratellis’ Night Afore Party is an outdoor standing concert in West Princes Street Gardens. Ticketmaster lists the event from 6pm and says it is for over-12s, with anyone under 16 required to be accompanied by an adult aged over 18.
Tickets go on sale at 10am today (Friday 11 September) priced from £42 including booking fees.
