The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced two Scottish shows as part of a new co-headline UK tour with The Psychedelic Furs.
The influential East Kilbride-formed band will play Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Wednesday 20 January 2027 before heading to Glasgow for a show at the O2 Academy on Friday 22 January.
The concerts form part of an eight-date UK tour which will see the two bands go “head to head” at venues across the country.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (25 September).
The tour will begin at the O2 Academy in Leeds on 19 January before the two Scottish dates. It then visits Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Brighton before finishing at the new British Airways ARC venue in London on 29 January.
It will be the first time The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs have toured the UK together, following a successful run of joint shows across North America in 2024.
The pairing brings together two of the most influential alternative bands to emerge from the late 1970s and 1980s.
Brothers Jim and William Reid formed The Jesus and Mary Chain in East Kilbride in 1983 before moving to London and breaking through with their landmark debut album Psychocandy in 1985.
The album established the band internationally with its distinctive combination of distorted guitars and melodic pop songwriting, and included tracks such as Just Like Honey and Never Understand.
The band went on to release albums including Darklands, Automatic and Honey’s Dead before splitting in 1999.
Jim and William Reid reunited the group in 2007 and have continued to tour and record. Their most recent studio album, Glasgow Eyes, was released in 2024 and reached number seven in the UK albums chart – their first UK Top 10 album since 1988.
The Psychedelic Furs emerged from London’s post-punk scene in the late 1970s, led by brothers Richard and Tim Butler.
Their best-known songs include Pretty in Pink, Love My Way, Heaven and The Ghost in You. Pretty in Pink also inspired the title of John Hughes’ 1986 film starring Molly Ringwald.
The band returned with Made of Rain in 2020, their first studio album in almost three decades, and have continued to tour extensively.
The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs previously toured North America together in 2024, playing more than 20 dates.
Their newly announced UK tour will bring the pairing to Scotland for two consecutive shows early next year.
