Aldi has announced plans to open a new store in Glasgow on Maryhill Road.
The supermarket would be built on the site of the former Taggart car showroom on the corner of Hopehill Road and Maryhill Road, costing around £14m.
It would offer 1,191 square metres of net retail sales space, with Aldi promising a high-quality design complemented by attractive landscaping to enhance the site’s overall appearance.
The development would also feature 99 parking spaces, including 76 standard bays, seven parent-and-child spaces, six accessible bays and nine electric vehicle charging spaces, with dedicated provision for accessible and parent-and-child EV parking.
Andy Doyle, Real Estate Director at Aldi, said: “We are delighted to bring forward proposals for a new Aldi store on Maryhill Road, representing a £14 million investment in Glasgow.
“We hope to build on our existing presence in the city and provide residents in Maryhill and the surrounding area with greater access to affordable, high-quality food and everyday essentials.
“A new store would create up to 35 new jobs, while supporting additional employment through construction and the wider supply chain.
“Our proposals also include attractive landscaping and electric vehicle charging facilities, helping to create a modern, convenient store for the local community.
“We are committed to engaging with local residents as our plans progress and look forward to hearing their views at our public consultation event. This will provide an opportunity for the community to view our proposals and share feedback ahead of the submission of a planning application.”
Aldi is inviting members of the public to share their views on the proposed development ahead of submitting a formal planning application.
A drop-in consultation event will take place at Woodside Halls on Glenfarg Street on November 12, from 3pm to 7pm.
Local residents will be able to view the plans, find out more about the proposals and provide feedback.
